Limestone karsts are a character of sedimentary rock formation that treat large portion of southerly China , the Philippine islands , and the famousWallacea islands . They are fragmented landscape create cryptical divots and crag and caves . These strange feature make microhabitats where some of the most threatened animals on Earth bump their household , as such they are often referred to as " arks of biodiversity " .

In the karstic massif of Khammouan Province , central Laos , researchers have describe another such beast . Two someone of a new mintage of dragon lizard have been divulge . " Indeed , when perching on top of limestone karsts , soul of the young specie become almost unseeable in the mosaic of sharp shadower and light floater and are hard to recognize unless they start affect , " the researcher wrote in the paper .

These lounge lizard have been given the nameLaodracon carsticolaand belong to the mainland Asia subfamily Draconinae – the squad recommend the common name Khammouan Karst Dragon . The new species mensurate around 101 millimeters ( 3.9 inch ) long and has slate gray and bootleg scales with blue color on their pharynx and grim / gray paunch .
