Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts mother accused of killing her three young children before attempting suicide, allegedly researched “ways to kill” prior to their deaths, authorities said in newly unsealed court documents.
Prosecutors allege Clancy strangled each of them to death with an exercise band at the family’s Duxbury, Mass., home on the evening of Jan. 24 while her husband,Patrick Clancy, stepped out to run a couple of errands.
Investigators reportedly collected Clancy’s pink iPhone, electronic tablets, laptops, exercise bands, a silver knife and four prescription medication bottles, among other items. Investigators also took blood and urine samples from Clancy along with swabs from under her fingernails.
“Investigators are also aware that Ms. Clancy used her cellular telephone and her journal to document her mental state and her feelings about her children, in addition to keeping track of her medications, and researching ways to kill, which means that [it] is reasonable to conclude that Ms. Clancy would have used all formats and tools available to her including a tablet,” the affidavit states, perThe Boston Globe.
The nearly 300 pages of documents did not reveal the details of the alleged searches.
At Clancy’s initial arraignment in February, her defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, argued she wasseverely overmedicatedwith psychiatric drugs, and inadequately treated for the postpartum mental illnesses she was allegedly experiencing, in the months leading up to the suspected killings, and thus could not be held liable for her alleged actions.
Reddington previously toldThe Boston Globethat his client was prescribed drugs for mood disorders, anxiety and psychosis.

Inside the home, he found his three children in the basement with exercise bands wrapped around their necks, prosecutors said.
Cora and Dawson were taken to the hospital and pronounced dead that day, prosecutors said, but Callan was treated for several days at Boston Children’s Hospitalbefore succumbing to his injuries.
Clancy has been hospitalized since the incident and was reportedlyparalyzed from the waist downas a result of the fall.
Prosecutors previously claimed that Clancy sent Patrick on an errand to pick up dinner and a prescription the evening of the killings, showing “deliberate premeditation and extreme atrocity and cruelty."

In the weeks leading up to the alleged murders, Clancy’s defense attorney said she was feeling detached and emotionless toward her kids and had “been unable to express any happiness, or sadness, or cry.”
Reddington previously said in court that, “Right up to the very end when she was so bad that [Clancy] voluntarily turned herself in” to a Boston psychiatric hospital in early January, where she allegedly spent five days, before returning home.
In aGoFundMe created for the familyshortly after the deaths, Patrick wrote about his three children and asked the public to forgive his wife.

“The shock and pain is excruciating and relentless. I’m constantly reminded of them and with the little sleep I get, I dream about them on repeat,” Patrick wrote on Jan. 28. “Cora, Dawson, and Callan were the essence of my life and I’m completely lost without them.”
Clancy was on leave from her job as a labor and delivery nurse atMassachusetts General Hospitalat the time of the killings.
According toThe Boston Globe, Clancy is expected to be arraigned Thursday at Tewksbury Hospital, where she has been receiving mental health treatment. She pleaded not guilty during an initial arraignment in February.
