Being part of the upcoming remake ofRoad Houseis extra special toJake Gyllenhaal, considering the original starred one of his heroes.
On Sunday, Gyllenhaal shared a throwback photo of himself and original starPatrick Swayzeto his Instagram grid from 2003, reflecting on their time working together and the lessons he learned from the late Swayze.
“I’ve been thinking back about my time working with Patrick onDonnie Darko, and rewatching this great man in the original Road House plus so many other films,” wrote Gyllenhaal, 43. “I’ve never stopped being a fan. He was such a talent and I continue to have so much respect and admiration for what he put out and into the world.”
“I’llnever forget his kindnessto me when I was starting out — he didn’t have to take the time, but he always did,” the actor continued. “We’ve made a different RH this time around, but hoping it’s one he would’ve had fun watching!”

In the newRoad House, Gyllenhaal plays Dalton, an ex-UFC fighter who “takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems,” per a synopsis.
“I’m thrilled to put my own spin on the belovedRoad Houselegacy,” Liman, 58, said in a previous statement. “And I can’t wait to show audiences what Jake and I are going to do with this iconic role.”
The new movie also stars Daniela Melchior,Billy Magnussen,Jessica Williams,Joaquim de Almeida,Lukas Gage,Arturo Castro,B.K. Cannon, Beau Knapp andDarren Barnet, plus MMA fighterConor McGregorin his first-ever movie role.

Gyllenhaal previously remembered working withSwayze, who died in 2009 at age 57following a battle with pancreatic cancer, tellingEntertainment Tonightin 2017, per theSalina Journal, “I remember being really young and he was so supportive and kind.”
“I remember Patrick Swayze having an electric scooter and driving back and forth and he was such a lovely man, he was just filled with so much love and kindness,” he continued.
“And then I have this really crazy picture I took of him on his electric scooter, and he just looks like this wonderful mad man,” Gyllenhaal added toET, per theJournal.
