Tommy Edison , who has donemany videosabout what it ’s like to have been blind since parentage , recently require people to describe colors to him . And the result says a lot about our emotional association to color , which can take issue from the reality a fair bit .
clear , colouring mean more to us than its actual definition on the visible brightness level spectrum . We see this in things like the Ancient Greeks’lack of a word for disconsolate . People associate colors with certain thing , even if they are also useable in the opponent . For example , when a fille call browned “ disgusting ” and “ boggy , ” Edison fires back with the fact that chocolate is brown .
My favorite part is the discussion of Charles Grey as “ the sense of smell of rainwater on mineral pitch ” or “ the direction cotton fiber confect feels . ” Edison asks if that means grey is indulgent and he get an forceful answer to that from one interviewee and a “ but metal is grizzly and operose ” from another . I guess it depend on whether you associate gray with alloy or , as I do , with cloud and wool .

What ’s interesting is that some colors do n’t cause that variety of problem . Red is a color to watch out for and blue is calming . But for other colour , there ’s a bit of an identity crisis .
