Hayley Atwell Perfectly Sums Up the Creepiness of Captain America’s New Love Interest

If you ’ve examine both Captain America : Winter Soldier and Captain America : Civil War , then you know that the first one lay out up a possible relationship between Agent 13 ( Emily VanCamp ) and Steve Rogers ( Chris Evans ) , and the other just throw that relationship together out of nowhere . Well , Hayley Atwell has weighed in .

Of all the unearthly things from the strip to keep , the Marvel cinematic universe has decide that Captain America ’s modern day love interest , Sharon , is the niece of his 1940s love pursuit , Peggy ( Atwell ) . It ’s weird and creepy-crawly and was not something the film needed to have , particularly since Steve is a scrap upstage in Winter Soldier . But suddenly in Civil War he snog Sharon , shortly after a ) Peggy dies and b ) he discovers Sharon and Peggy are related . Not nerveless , Steve .

At Dallas Comic Con Fan Expo , Hayley Atwell joked about what Peggy would suppose of all this , and it ’s all in on - point :

Well , first of all she ’d be turn over in her grave . She ’d be like “ no . ” And she ’d inject herself with the blue serum and become a super scoundrel . She ’d break out of her coffin and ground [ Sharon ] . She ’d ground her . Then she ’d complain Steve ’s Eastern Samoa as well . ”

I just feel that , you know – I would n’t want to date my great auntie ’s guy . It just feel like it frustrate an incestuous boundary . And Peggy just expire . That ’s even more disrespectful , right ? It ’s like , “ do n’t touch that . ” You ca n’t tap that !

Atwell even made a very timely reference to the current comics version of Steve , add up , “ She ’d need the good for her and she ’d desire her date a good guy rope . And now with this whole ‘ Hail Hydra ’ business , I do n’t know if Steve ’s good enough for her . ”
