Lu Guang ’s photograph look like concept art for some dystopian future . But they ’re actually very mod trope of China and Mongolia , where entire towns have been consumed by toxic chemicals , sewerage , and grime thanks to industrial barren .

Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography for his serial publication “ Pollution in China . ” These images were taken in various factory towns around China and Mongolia , showing how the spin-off of industry have ravage the region . Perhaps most noteworthy is that these towns are still very much inhabited , with people living and suffering under these revelatory conditions .
