The Verdict :
The W995a is well built , find solid . I mean , there ’s nothing peculiarly wrong with it except for the keyboard , which seems slight and prone to inaccurate typewriting . It has a beautiful projection screen . The media reproduction capabilities are OK . you could expend physical buttons to play , suspension , go forward , and backwards . And they illuminate up ! The real tale is that the W995a is essentially the same cell as the first cellphone I ’ve ever used and loved dear : My trusty Sony Ericsson T68i . That thing and I had history , and I loved it . I loved the same ground substance computer menu , the same knotty exploiter user interface that makes you go through a hundred screens before gain the place you want , and I even jazz the prognostic keyboard — which actually really did n’t work well , but whatever .
That was in 2002 .
I do n’t think of to pick on the Sony Ericsson here , which is in all likelihood one of the good dumbphones of its kind , a totally satisfactory high remainder specimen . No , I ’m talk about the total infernal category of ace expensive phones that do nothing peculiar compared to the phones we had a X ago .
I pop off through other mute cellphones after that , all the same , from Nokia , from Motorola , LG , Samsung … all these dense cellphone have the same clunky interface , the same risky medium handling , the same bad internet accession . There were “ smartphones ” then too . But they were n’t that smart . I had a BlackBerry , for example , that was just a laud cellphone with a cycle and nice chain armor than the rest , which did n’t have mail at all . Sony and Nokia also had “ smartphones . ” They were so happy .
tight forward to 2007 . With the cellphone market already saturated with century of combination of dumbphones , Apple free the iPhone . Nokia brush off it . Motorola too . ( Motowho ? ) So did RIM and the remainder . These “ newbies ” from Cupertino did n’t realise the cellphone clientele — how could they introduce a phone ? The market think otherwise and the iPhone slip the show . People saw simplicity enwrap in unspoilt plan , and even though not everybody bought it , everybody realized all of a sudden that cellular phone do n’t have to be clunky machine full of button and neverending arbitrary menu .
The iPhone redefine the game and people instinctively knew that , and the chic company followed suit . Next cameAndroidandPalm Preandthe not - yet - released Windows Mobile 7 , adaptation of the same basic idea : Smartphones are not about piling on the crap . Smartphones really are simplerphones which , because of that , actually can do more than dumbphones .

The Real Verdict — About All Dumbphones : So my last question is : How can troupe keep release more or less the same dumbphones from 2002 in 2009 ? I do n’t have a hint . There are 4 billion cellphones in the satellite andonly 10 % are smartphones . Some will say that there should be cellphone for everyone . True . Cheap dumb cellphone for $ 10 a pappa are great . But this matter cost $ 600 . Other similar phones from other companies cost about the same without a contract . In 2009 , I ca n’t find any excuse to buy something like this .
