We got a few minutes alone withStar Trek‘s Romulan forged son , Eric Bana , and expect deep into the psyche of Nero . Bana explain how he got so rev up , he passed out on set .
permit ’s verbalize about your character , Nero . He has such a tragic back storey . Did you ever feel like a tragical hero ?
That ’s a proficient head . Tragic hero ? I guess to a degree . I never really saw him as a villain , even though he sort of performs that function for the play of the story . To me , yeah , he was Nero , leader of the Romulans who has been wronged and is seeking revenge , and that ’s kind of how I see him so I think . Yeah , I like your description .
The writers write a whole amusing prequel about your character , did you interpret it ?
No , no I did n’t , really . I was so engrossed in the playscript and had a lot of ideas for the character reference , and I was very careful . I learned about some of that poppycock , but I did n’t want to cloud what I had going on in my own caput , but I ’m look frontward to reading it now .
So how did you number up with your ideas for the character ? Where did you go ?
fundamentally , I think if a script ’s well - written , it sparks your resourcefulness , and you almost care start direct the film in your promontory , with ideas . And for me it was a lot of his back write up and the fact that he ’s been in prison for so long , and was so patient in reenact his retaliation , which makes it a lot about the type . So it was essentially , you cognize , I guess … you bring together the Elvis and seek to occur up with something that ’s interesting and entertaining . You know , it ’s a character we have n’t seen before .
I ’m curious about your movements in character reference . You ’re very aggressive and strong , did you come up with any of those reactions and jumps yourself or was it all planned out ?
Some of them were a mo urging of the moment . It was a fairly intense persona . I pass out , I cerebrate , once during one of the takes , I got so carried away . turn a loss about twenty minute , down on the floor , and pose up , and the photographic camera was still rolling and it was like , “ I guess I just extend now . ” Um yeah . It was pretty crazy .
I ca n’t believe you passed out on curing ! How did you stay that crank up on set ?
You get used to it . The reality of it is you just ebb and flow . There are prison term during the day when you ’re really really peak , and then you just get down the other side . It ’s like having an espresso , you cognize – you just pay off ta allow for that and just essay and jazz yourself up when that tv camera ’s peal , but it is exhausting .
Time traveling should be very intimate to you now . You time - travel in Star Trek and you time travel inThe Time Traveler ’s Wife . How is that time - traveling dissimilar from what we see in Star Trek ?
Well it was very , very different . The Time Traveler ’s Wife , … it ’s very , very worked up linguistic context , all the time . I mean , they ’re go back to see your married woman as she ’s growing up . It ’s such a beautiful story , and yeah , yeah , it ’s a lot less about retaliation and devastation .
Does the change of location have any special FX in Time Traveler that are similar to Star Trek with the back holes ?
No . I would n’t really discover it as science fiction - atomic number 39 at all , it ’s a love story with some time - jaunt elements .
And are we gon na see more science fiction from you after this ?
I do n’t know . I ’m sort of not such a huge skill fiction guy . It just sort of happened that elbow room . I obtain ask in this , you know basically , because I thought the hand was incredible and [ I ’m ] just a huge fan of J.J. , and was die to mold with him . And so it was out of a longing to get into skill fable , but yeah , I ’m concerned in it . It ’s engrossing .
