Oh pricy . TheDante ’s Inferno Testhas banished me to the ageless fiery pit , 6th story . obviously , " the three infernal Furies maculate with stemma , with limbs of women and hair of serpents , dwell in this circle of hell . " Which is all well and in force , except that serpent do n’t have hair . I think this may be a case of chancy grammar – the Furies , like Medusa , had twist made of serpent .

What else can I expect on my forthcoming trip to Dante ’s land of everlasting damnation?The sixth circle of Hell includes the ego - contained City of Dis ( at least I ’ll get to live in an urban environs ! ) and is allow for heretics . Judging by theprimary informant , it count like I ’ll pass most of my time lie in a flame grave with some politicians from Dante ’s meter , including the jaunty fellow pictured here , one " Farinata , " a Ghibelline who was obsessed with the machination of Florentine leaders . A number of Dante ’s travelogue describing this endearing scenario is after the jump , or you may consult thismore modern translation . And yes , I do bring in that my glibly heretical attitude toward the test results is in all likelihood enough to get me into Circle Six all by itself .

PS : The questions in the Inferno Test are deadly ( no punning intend ) serious . If you prefer a more light - hearted assessment of your place in Dante ’s canon , trythis quiz , which take such interrogation as " have you ever give away Julius Caesar ? " and " is your byname Benedict ? "

The sepulchres make all the lieu uneven;So likewise did they there on every side , deliver that there the manner was more bitter ;

For flame between the sepulchres were scattered , By which they so intensely het were , That iron more so asks not any nontextual matter .

All of their cover uplifted were , And from them publish forth such dire laments , Sooth seemed they of the wretched and tormented .

Here like together with its like is buried;And more and less the monuments are heat up . “And when he to the rightfield had turn , we passedBetween the torments and high parapets .
